Dr. Marie-Eve Martel

Registered Psychologist (CPBAO #6475 / CHCPBC #2785 )

Professional Profile

I am a registered psychologist offering psychotherapy to adults in both English and French.

I hold doctoral-level training in psychology, having completed a clinical doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) at l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 2018, as well as a research doctorate (Ph.D.) in 2025. My academic background also includes a Master’s degree (M.A.) in Education (counselling) from the University of Ottawa.

My clinical training includes internships at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa, where I worked with adults presenting a range of psychological and health-related concerns.

I am registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (#6475) and the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (#2785) as a doctoral-level psychologist in autonomous practice, with competency in clinical psychology with adults.

I offer virtual psychotherapy to clients across Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.

Training and Experience

My approach to therapy is thoughtful, individualized, and grounded in a deep understanding of each person’s unique history and patterns.

I work from a psychodynamic and relational perspective, paying close attention to recurring patterns in emotions, relationships, and self-perception, as well as the ways past experiences may continue to shape present difficulties. This allows us to move beyond symptom management and toward more meaningful, lasting change.

At the same time, I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and elements of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) when helpful. These approaches can provide practical tools and structure, which I tailor to your needs and goals.

My aim is to offer a space that is both reflective and practical – where we can develop insight while also supporting you in making changes that feel aligned and sustainable.

committed to continued learning

Professional and Community Involvement

In addition to my clinical work, I have been actively involved in research and teaching throughout my career.

My research has focused primarily on chronic pain and psychological interventions, culminating in a doctoral thesis examining self-help approaches based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which was accepted with distinction. I remain engaged with the research and literature and value integrating current knowledge into my clinical work in a thoughtful and applied way.

I have also taught at the University of Ottawa in the Master’s in Counselling Program, where I was involved in the training of future psychotherapists.

Ongoing learning is an important part of my professional development. I regularly attend conferences and advanced trainings, including the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) World Conference, where I have participated in workshops and presentations by leading clinicians and researchers in the field.

A selection of my publications is available below.
